Dogecoin added to Bitpay’s list of supported cryptocurrencies

In an official announcement on Thursday, the Cryptocurrency Merchant Service Provider stated:

[Bitpay] today announced the introduction of Dogecoin payments for merchants and consumers.

Dogecoin was started as an internet meme. Thanks to the support of celebrities like Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and Spacex, Snoop Dogg, Gene Simmons and Kevin Jonas, its market cap has surged to nearly $ 10 billion in the past few months.

Bitpay further revealed that “the Dallas Mavericks, early adopters of cryptocurrency, will be the first to accept Dogecoin.” Mark Cuban’s team has been accepting Bitcoin as a means of payment for playing cards and goods for almost two years.

Before the addition of Dogecoin, Bitpay supported cryptocurrencies from BTC, BCH, ETH and XRP as well as USD coins, Gemini dollars, Paxos Standard and Binance USD stablecoins. The announcement adds:

The Mavs use Bitpay to process all cryptocurrency purchases including tickets and merchandise with all top cryptocurrencies including BTC, BCH, ETH, USDC, GUSD, PAX and BUSD and now DOGE.

Dallas Mavericks owner, Shark Tank star Mark Cuban, commented, “The Mavericks decided to accept Dogecoin as payment for Mavs tickets and merchandise for a very important, earth-shattering reason, because we can … We chose to do it Because sometimes you have to do things in business that are fun, get involved and hopefully generate a lot of PR. “

For those unfamiliar with Dogecoin and wanting to learn more, Cuban advised, “We strongly encourage you to speak to and ask about your teenagers on Tik Tok. They will be able to explain everything to you. “Dogecoin has been pumped multiple times on multiple social media platforms, including Tik Tok. Spacex and Tesla CEO Elon Musk also had a fair share in pumping the coin’s price with various tweets.
