The US city of Miami is full of Bitcoin. City commissioners have voted to support the mayor’s decision to allow payments in Bitcoin for salaries, taxes and fees. The city also supports efforts to make Bitcoin an acceptable currency for potential treasury investments.

Miami goes deep into Bitcoin

Miami City commissioners voted Thursday evening to support Mayor Francis Suarez’s resolution that would make Miami a city with a high bitcoin push.

In a video thanking the commissioners for their support, the pro-bitcoin mayor stated that the resolution “instructs the city administrator, after analyzing it, to find a seller who can offer our employees a percentage of their salary in Bitcoin Our residents must pay the fees in Bitcoin and allow the City Administrator to work with Miami County so that taxes can be paid in Bitcoin. ” He added:

It is also a request from lawmakers that the City of Miami support efforts to make Bitcoin an acceptable currency that we can potentially invest in in the future.

“It is wonderful to be a very crypto-forward looking city,” concluded Mayor Suarez after thanking his “fellow Commissioners” again “for allowing this”.

“Miami City Hall could start conducting some of its financial transactions using Bitcoin,” the Miami Herald reported, adding that the city will launch awareness campaigns in English, Spanish and Creole to educate people about cryptocurrency.

The crypto community commends Mayor Suarez for his efforts to introduce Bitcoin. One Twitter user wrote: “This is insanely big for Bitcoin.” Another commented: “Other city mayors should consider following Mr Suarez’s initiative to invest the city treasury in Bitcoin.”

Morgan Creek Digital partner, Anthony Pompliano, who moved to Miami after convincing the mayor to put 1% of the city’s treasure reserves in bitcoin, tweeted:

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez just turned Miami into Bitcoin. Employee pays in BTC. Residents pay fees in BTC. Taxes in BTC. City treasury in BTC. Absolutely unreal. The first bitcoin city in the United States.
