Crypto Portfolio Tracking App Apologizes for Racist Messages Sent to Customers- Investigations Underway – News Bitcoin News

The crypto portfolio tracker Blockfolio, owned by the FTX exchange, was compromised when racist notifications surfaced. Blockfolio users received the offensive messages warning that they would lose all funds.

Some offensive messages contained a URL allegedly linked to pornography

According to the Crypto Tracker and trading app, they are almost completely back with their notification system, and the company publicly apologized:

We are incredibly sorry that offensive news was posted today. No funds etc. were involved. This did not interact with trading functions.

Blockfolio also said they revoked access to the compromised signal transmitter and removed the racists’ messages. Tracking parts of the app are gradually returning, said FTX’s own app.

All objectionable messages from users appear to be the same, with clear grammatical errors. It is as follows:

Hello, we are sad to announce that we have suspended our services to all blacks and * N-word * and immediately lost all funds. We encourage all users to withdraw immediately to avoid losing funds.

The offensive notification ends with an invitation to visit a website that is reported to be hosting pornography. However, other users in the crypto community said they received other messages that did not contain URLs.

Could the incident be bigger than what was said?

Funds and trading functions per Blockfolio were not affected by the incident. However, there are users on social media reporting issues with trading.

As part of the apology, Blockfolio announced that it would give all users with trading enabled $ 10 free “like anyone else who signs up this week” (maximum of one million people).

Sam Bankman-Fried, CEO of FTX, also said they will be conducting a security review next month and confirmed that the company accepts responsibility for the incident. Although the crypto community has claimed that this incident was related to a hacking attack, the company has not officially confirmed it at all.

In addition, social media users also talk about a possible significant data exploitation due to the incident if it was a product of a hacking attack.
