Miami mayor calls Bitcoin ‘stable investment’ during unstable year

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez is the youngest high profile figure to promote Bitcoin (BTC), providing more evidence that mainstream adoption is growing.

In a Thursday tweet, Suarez called Bitcoin a “stable investment” during an “incredibly unstable year,” adding that he is learning about the digital flagship through numbers like Tyler Winklevoss and Anthony Pompliano.

Great insight into how @Bitcoin was a stable investment during an incredibly unstable year … currently reading Bitcoin Billionaires @tyler. @APompliano other good reads? https://t.co/nenQ5xmfi7

Winklevoss and Pompliano both responded to Suarez’s tweet. Tyler said he and his brother Cameron would bring a “signed copy of Bitcoin Billionaires,” a book about the twins, to the Mayor of Miami while Pompliano announced Miami as the future Bitcoin city.

Earlier in the day, Suarez stated that his administration was studying the idea of Miami becoming the country’s first cryptocentric government. “Absolutely explore,” he said in response to a tweet. No further details were given.

Suarez was elected Mayor of Miami in November 2017 after running as an impartial candidate. Before entering politics, he worked as a lawyer and started a title real estate company.

Miami has been described as one of the hottest American cities for cryptocurrency by some news outlets due to negligent government oversight and the influx of foreign capital. The North American Bitcoin Conference with names like Charles Hoskinson, Roger Ver and Riccardo Sagni took place in Miami earlier this year.

Bitcoin’s explosive rally this year, sparked in part by corporate and institutional takeovers, is sparking new conversations about digital assets. Bitcoin adoption is increasingly seen as a competitive advantage in an economy marked by financial instability, asset price inflation, and record central bank intervention.
