Miami Mayor ‘Exploring’ Ideas in Crypto Governance

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez could try to turn his city into a hotbed for cryptocurrency innovation.

Suarez tweeted Thursday that he is “absolutely exploring” to make Miami, the seventh largest city in the United States, home to the country’s first cryptocentric municipal government, apparently advocating concepts from tokenization to chain voting. He has reached out to new urban resident Anthony Pompliano, Morgan Creek Digital founder and partner and crypto Twitter celebrity, for help.

In a subsequent tweet, Suarez said he wanted South Florida “at the forefront of legislation that encourages crypto and makes us rely on innovation”. He said he would reach out to Wyoming’s blockchain doyenne Caitlin Long for help on that front.

Earlier Thursday, Suarez appeared to be accepting the growing appeal of Bitcoin as an alternative investment with a tweet on Ben Mezrich’s book about the Winklevoss twins, the Bitcoin Billionaires.
