Musician Grimes’ debut NFT auction generates $5.8M in 20 minutes

The Canadian musician and visual artist Claire Elise Boucher or Grimes sold gigantic art worth 5.8 million US dollars on Nifty Gateway in less than 20 minutes.

On February 28, the popular musician started her first NFT collection “WarNymph” in collaboration with her brother, the digital artist Mac Boucher.

The collection uses elements from mythology and futurism to create the “Oth3rkin Universe”. Grimes’ WarNymph collection consists of a goddess battling obsolescence and future decay in a fictional space. The listing on Nifty Gateway states:

“WarNymph is the goddess of Neo-Genesis. She fights against the destructive power of outdated ideas and the systemic decay that threatens the future. She embodies the power of constant regeneration, which manifests itself in a state of infinite childhood in which she sheds her old skin of corruption. “

The collection included four drawings that were sold via Open Draw, three images that were sold in a silent auction, and a regulatory auction for a one-of-a-kind multimedia piece.

. Each of the artworks depicts angel children, often found in dystopian scenarios that address issues relevant to popular culture – like an incubator reminiscent of the matrix and a monolith that invokes the planet of the apes.

The four open edition token drawings were priced at $ 20 and were limited to 100 copies each, with buyers of each piece being selected through a random drawing. More than 13,000 people have registered for each open raffle.

The silent auctions, in which the bidders could anonymously compete for one of ten copies of three works of art, fetched prices of 77,000 to 111,000 US dollars – despite minimum bids from just 1,000 US dollars.

The most expensive NFT sold was “Death of the Old”, an animation showing flying angel children circulating a bright white cross and accompanied by an exclusive demo track by Grimes. The piece was sold through a regular auction, with the winner paying nearly $ 389,000 for the unique work of art.

Grimes is a well-known Canadian musician and wife of Elon Musk, CEO and Dogecoin enthusiast of Tesla. The entire Musk family is now involved in crypto. Tesla invests $ 1.5 billion in Bitcoin on February 8, and Elon buys Dogecoin for his 9-month-old son on February 11 so that he can become a “toddler hodler”.

After her symbolized art debut, Grimes is the top performing musician in the NFT industry to date. The musician also teased more drops that will be released as she evolves the Oth3rkin universe.

Grimes also noted that a portion of the proceeds will go to Carbon 180, an NGO dedicated to reducing carbon emissions.

Grimes’ debut follows the steps of other celebrities to join NFTs like entrepreneur Mark Cuban, actress Lindsay Lohan, rock band singer Linkin Park, Mike Shinoda and former MLB player Micah Johnson.
