Rick and Morty creator auctioning NFT artwork collection

Winklevoss-owned Nifty Gateway has announced the auctioning of a crypto art collection from voice actor and co-creator of the adult swim cult series Rick and Morty.

According to a tweet from Nifty Gateway, the Non-Fungible Token (NFT) Marketplace will be auctioning off artwork by Rick and Morty’s co-creator Justin Roiland on Jan. 19. The platform stated that “several original works of art” by Roiland are offered as part of the collection.

The Rick and Morty co-creator tweeted about Bitcoin (BTC) for the first time in 2015 and mentioned the crypto asset in a GQ video last June. Viewers should “watch out for the impending economic collapse – buy bitcoin and crypto”. Then he added, “Maybe not do that.”

Nifty Gateway has had some notable sales auctioning NFT crypto art. An auction was held in the marketplace in December with a collection of artwork inspired by technology, nature and Star Wars that ultimately sold for $ 3.5 million. One piece sold for $ 777,777. The previous record for the most valuable work of art auctioned on the market was held by Trevor Jones’ NFT “Picasso’s Bull”, which sold for $ 55,555.55 in August.

The Rick and Morty animated series has a well-established following, some of whom are also crypto fans. José Delbo, a comic artist who also auctions his NFTs on Nifty and has shown his art in the Ethereum-based virtual reality world Decentraland, described Roiland’s entry into the digital art world as “very exciting”.

“When Jose paves the way, it will be great to see other great comic and cartoonists walk into the room with their fans,” said Twitter user CryptoRich0x69.

“What a great time in art history.”
