The popular trading card company Topps today launched the “2021 Garbage Pail Kids Food Fight” series. The trading card packs are sold in Target and Walmart stores. The GPK (Garbage Pail Kids) series not only offers people trading cards from trading boxes, Topps has also inserted blockchain-based rare code cards that can be redeemed for exclusive NFK collectibles (Non Fungible Tokens) in the Wax blockchain.
Blockchain and GPK
The Garbage Pail Kids (GPK) has been a popular trading card series from Topps since the 1980s. The Topps company was founded in 1938 and has been creating trading cards for a variety of sports and hobbies for decades. Topps also owns Bazooka Bubblegum, Ring Pop, Push Pop, and Baby Bottle Pop candies.
The Garbage Pail Kids were launched in 1985 and distributed by the trading card company Topps. The GPK artwork was originally designed by artists John Pound, Tom Bunk, Joe Simko, and Layron DeJarnette. In 2020, Topps launched the first iterations of digital GPKs on the wax blockchain, as shown above.
More recently, GPK cards have become popular again after making headlines in the 1980s. Series 1 packs of 1985 GPK Originals, especially the glossy card series, can fetch thousands of dollars. Since the birth of Bitcoin, blockchain technology has changed not only finance, but other industries like art and collectibles as well. Last year, Topps teamed up with the wax.io (Wax Blockchain) team and released the first iterations of digital GPK collectibles.

Topps Launches Garbage Pail Kids Food Fight Series in 2021 with Chances to Win Wax Blockchain GPK NFTs
The blockchain wax also allows users to create, buy, sell and trade virtual NFTs and physical items. According to its own information, the Wax network has enabled more than 100 million digital article exchanges since 2017. This week Topps is releasing the “2021 Topps Garbage Pail Kids Food Fight” series, which, like all other annual GPK sets, is sold at Targets and Walmarts.
Boxes and packs of physical cards have a chance to win a rare code card that you can use to redeem GPK Wax blockchain collectibles. The announcement describes that there are 11 original pieces and a number of exclusive digital variants.
“On February 24, 2021, Topps will be releasing physical packages in Walmart and Target. The digital version will be released on the Wax blockchain on February 25, 2021, ”Topps said during the announcement. “Physical card collectors may also receive an exclusive redemption code card in the physical packages that are used to mark exclusive digital collectibles on the Wax blockchain. Recently, individuals traded the NFT-based basketball trading cards “NBA Top Shots”. As of Monday, 27,000 individuals bought Individuals NBA Top Shots cards and sales in excess of $ 32 million.
